Meet Evan
My Name is Evan. I recently graduated from Goldenwest College, and I am now entering the workforce. The job search has been difficult and sometimes frustrating, but I am soldiering on…Because I am on the autism spectrum and I have cerebral palsy, I feel I have to do more to sell myself to potential employers. It is hard to convince people to give you a shot when you have a disability. I wish that employers could see that my disability will not hinder me from doing a good job. In fact, they should realize that I have had to work harder than most people to get where I am today.
I am starting this blog to encourage others with ASD. I also hope that those without ASD will read this and understand that my disability doesn’t define me and the same is true for others with disabilities. Too often people want to stereotype those with ASD, but I am here to tell you I don’t fit into any mold. I am outgoing and hate playing video games. I mention the latter because too often in school programs, teachers and aides automatically think that the ASD students like video games. I love to read, especially biographies and good mysteries. I am currently working my way through all of Dennis Lehane’s novels that feature the detectives Patrick and Angie. If you don’t like reading, I can recommend the movies based on his books, such as Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone
Meet Lora
Hi, my name is Lora, and I am a mom of two boys and an overly affectionate labradoodle named Fred. I am using this blog to share life’s ups, downs, and sideways moments while navigating the world of high-functioning autism with my adult son, Evan. I hope you’ll find this space to be filled with honesty and humor, as we navigate the beautiful mess of learning together. Evan and I named our blog Wired with Love, because Evan truly is one of the most loving sons a mom could ever ask for!
